MEWFEST: Easter 2007

Your Invite to the Easter Weekend at Bar Beach, Newcastle

Mewfest: Easter 2007

In order to fully appreciate the Easter Long Weekend I’m inviting you all up to Newcastle (which will henceforth be known as “Mewcastle”, as per the continued comments from Foster and Stu) to enjoy some surf and many beers.

To ensure that you know how to get here (and what you’ll need) I’m providing a bit of a guide.

Where the Hell Am I Going?

Bar Beach - Location of Mewfest: Easter 2007

Bar Beach - Location of Mewfest: Easter 2007

Unless you’re Stu, and happened to help me move my crap up here, you’ll not have a clue where I live, so here’s the address:

Unit 6 - 289-295 Darby St,
Bar Beach NSW 2300

Since we haven’t set up a landline yet, you’ll have to catch me on the mobile if you need any more assistance than the Google Map directions below.

Directions from Sydney

  1. Head up the highway;
  2. Turn off at the Newcastle and Wallsend exit off the highway;
  3. Follow road all the way into Newcastle and past the Town Hall;
  4. Turn right onto Darby Street at traffic lights near O'Finnigans;
  5. Turn right at the roundabout at Parkway Drive (I'm on the corner of the two, on the south-east side).

What Am I Bringing?

Given that we only have a king-single fold-out, a three seater and a two seater couch with no linen, you’re going to need to bring up with you an air matress, a sleeping bag + pillow*.

Two of the couches available to sleep on.

Two of the couches available to crash on (three seater on left, two seater in front of shot)

For the surfers, our virtual-resident swell forecaster (aka Charles) has deemed this weekend to be a goer for the surf. It’s a two block stroll down to Bar Beach (or go for a cruise further on to Mereweather). The rest of us will enjoy bacon and eggs while you are out for your morning constitutional with the water.

Real Barrels (just for foster) may be on offer (according to virtual-resident swell forecaster Charles)

A case of beer and an esky would probably be a good idea too since the fridge up here is a little small (and I’m not planning on supplying your bloody grog!)

What Is There To Eat?

Darby Street is one of a few “eating spots” here. The others are Beaumont Street and down at the Waterfront. We’ll do a tour to determine the best locations.

Where Can I Go Drinking?

Given I haven’t been out too much in Mewcastle I cannot tell you about every nook and cranny. I do know that the local (“The Del”) is a pretty damn good pub, though this closes at around midnight. Further into town you’ve got The Cambridge for some good live music. Beyond that, I’ll be asking around (and I noticed that Seb managed to find a few spots.

The Seabellies, The Cambridge Hotel

Good live music is always available. Saw The Seabellies at The Cambridge Hotel a few weeks back
